The 100 Black Men
Of Los Angeles
10th Annual
Fundraiser Dinner

The 100 Black Men of Los Angeles, Inc. hosted their 10th annual Fundraiser Dinner, October 11, 2001 at the Los Angeles Airport Sheraton Gateway Hotel. More than 600 were in attendance, including Los Angeles City Mayor James Hahn and the program emcee Mr. Furnell Chatman of Channel 4 News. In addition to the goal of raising funds to support the Young Black Scholars Program, the event also honored Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, Los Angeles James Hahn, Dr. Winston Doby, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs of UCLA & Melphine Evans, Regional Vice President of British Petroleum. The fundraiser dinner also featured words of wisdom from Young Black Scholars and Alumni.

The Young Black Scholars (YBS) Program is a youth focused educational activity of the 100 Black Men of Los Angeles, Inc. The program began as a response to the 1983 alarming disparity of African American students meeting the University of California entrance requirements. The Young Black Scholars mission is to enhance the academic performance of African American youths through enrichment workshops and activities that support and prepare scholars for University admissions and success. It is the goal of Young Black Scholars to encourage African American students to excel academically and thus become eligible for admission to colleges and universities throughout the United States. What began as a pilot program in 1986, has flourished into nationally known program that has serviced more than 15,000 youths in the past 15 years.

Young Black Scholars maintains a non-profit status and is always in need of donations, sponsorships and volunteers. If you would like to provide donations or sponsorships to the Young Black Scholars Program, please contact
